WOLFVILLE, N.S. – Acadia University's Department of Athletics and Axewomen soccer head coach Amit Batra are pleased to announce the commitment of Surrey United U18 captain Jessica Hunt to the Axewomen Soccer program.

The Walnut Grove Secondary student hails from Langley, B.C. – the same hometown as the longtime friend and Axewomen commit Lauren Jodrey.

Hunt has represented her province at the club National Championships as well as regularly captained her side in the EA Sports BC Premier League for the past three seasons.   

Hunt is enthusiastic about her commitment to the Axewomen, "What I love about this university is what it has to offer both athletically and academically; this is why I chose Acadia. Having the balance of quality athletics and academics within a close-knit campus excites me.  I'm looking forward to being a part of a team that exhibits such a close, family bond on and off the field. Going into the 2018 season with many other talented recruits, I know that I can make a difference and will put in 100% of my effort and abilities to further help the team achieve their goals."

Niko Marcina, Surrey United BCPSL U-18 Head Coach is equally pleased for Hunt.

"Jessica exemplified the qualities of an effective leader since we first shook hands in 2013.  Over the years, she naturally captained our BC Premier League team and repeatedly displayed the ability to elevate the performance of everyone around her through her genuine and compassionate demeanor. Jessica inspires others with her words off the field and her actions on the field.  I am elated for Jessica and her decision to play for a strong and reputable program and I look forward to witnessing her continued growth and success at the post-secondary level," said Marcina.

 "We're happy to have Jessica commit to Acadia. I know her tactical insight and tidy technique were positives for us but it's her constant movement and availability that really show her soccer knowledge. She has a high ceiling and joins a long list of Midfielders that have come here and developed into a more complete player. I'm excited about her future at Acadia," added Batra.

An extremely academic student, Hunt will be entering Acadia's Bachelor of Arts in Psychology program this fall.

The Axewomen open the AUS regular season at home on Friday, September 7 against the visiting Mount Allison Mounties.
