Truro's Adams to join Axewomen in the fall of 2020

WOLFVILLE, N.S. - Acadia Athletics and Axewomen soccer head coach Amit Batra are pleased to announce the commitment of Truro, N.S. native Leah Adams.

A defender from Cobequid Educational Centre, Adams was the 2017 rookie of the year for the Cougars. In 2019, Adams and C.E.C. won the D1 Provincial finals following a 2018 bronze medal performance.

Coach Batra is looking forward to welcoming Adams to the program, "Leah fits our style of soccer in every way, she can make good passes out of the back and communicates well. Defensively she is excellent at reading the play and is a physical force. She's also a great student and has great leadership qualities and I believe she has the potential to make a strong impact at Acadia."

As a member of the Halifax Dunbrack Soccer Club, Adams was a silver medalist in 2017 and 2018.  Her club coach, George Iatrou believes Adams will be a positive contributor on the field and in the locker room.

"Leah is a very competitive athlete with an excellent work ethic. Her competitive nature along with her strong mental and physical qualities make her an outstanding performer under pressure. Leah is a leader and understands leading by example. Her demeanour is contagious and spreads while earning respect from her teammates," noted Iatrou.

Adams has been a part of Soccer Nova Scotia's provincial team for the last five years and was a part of three Atlantic Canada Championships beginning in 2015.

A strong academic student, Adams will be joining the Axewomen in the fall of 2020 and will be in the School of Kinesiology.  "I chose Acadia because of the reputation of the Kinesiology program, the campus size, and the great soccer program," noted Adams.

The Axewomen finished the 2019 season undefeated with a 9-0-3 record and narrowly lost out at the bronze medal at the U SPORTS National Championships, finishing the season 4th in Canada.
