WOLFVILLE, N.S. – The Axewomen improve to 3-2 and extend their winning streak to three with a tight fought 3-0 win over the visiting UNB Reds.

In two of the three sets, the Axewomen fought back from a deep deficit to overcome the UNB lead to win.

Acadia trailed 13-3 in the opening set but fought back on three Hannah Helm kills that highlighted an Axewomen comeback. Acadia eventually tied the game at 15 on an attack error and a Jamie Crockett kill gave Acadia a 16-15 lead that would hold for a 25-20 win.

In the second set, the Axewomen pushed out to an early 6-1 lead, but the Reds crawled back to tie the set at nine.

A Hannah Helm service ace gave the Axewomen a 13-12 lead and from that point onward Acadia held on to the advantage that grew to 18-15.

UNB fought back to within one-point deficit - 23-22, but a Helm service ace combined with a Lucy Glen-Carter kill gave the Axewomen a 25-23 second set win.

With Acadia up by as much as six points in the third set, the Reds worked back to a 17-17 tie on a kill by Emma Burns followed by a Kelsie Dukart service ace.

At 24-20 for the Reds, the Axewomen pulled off a six-point rally to defeat UNB 26-24. Three service aces and a kill by Lucy Glen-Carter ended the set and match.

Taylor Collombin was named the Acadia Subway Player of the Game for her effort in posting 11 digs and 8 kills for a hitting efficiency of 0.278. Lucy Glen-Carter led all on the court with 10 kills.

Robyn Anderson was named the UNB Player of the Game with six kills for a hitting efficiency of 0.333.

Both teams return to the Stu Aberdeen Court tomorrow at 3:00 pm for their second of two matches against each other this weekend.
