WOLFVILLE, N.S. – The Acadia Axewomen volleyball team took one step closer to holding on to second place in the AUS standings and earning the hosting of one of two semi-final matches.

A 3-0 win over the visiting Moncton Aigles Bleues (the make-up game that was postponed on Friday due to inclement weather) improved the Axewomen to 12-6. The Axewomen are tied with Saint Mary's Huskies but have a game in hand.

The Huskies and Axewomen meet on Friday night to determine who wants the opportunity to host a three-match semi-final series beginning on Friday, February 20. Acadia plays their last game against Dalhousie on Saturday.

In tonight's match, Acadia jumped out to a 7-3 lead in the opening set, but the margin diminished to 11-10 lead following an Axewomen handling error. At a 13-13 deadlock, Lucy Glen-Carter broke the tie on a kill and teammates Taylor Collombin and Peyton DeWolfe each added their own kill to give Acadia a 17-14 lead.

The Axewomen held on to the three point advantage and eventually won the opening set 25-22.

Acadia built on an early second set lead and never gave up the lead for the games' entirety, building to a set high 20-11 lead before posting a 25-16 second set win.

Out to a 10-2 third set lead, Acadia kept the pedal to the metal extending the advantage to 17-5 before posting a 25-12 win and 3-0 match win over the Aigles Bleues.

Peyton DeWolfe posted eight kills with a hitting efficiency of 0.316, while teammate Taylor Collombin added eight more kills. DeWolfe was named the Subway Player of the Game for her performance. The defensive effort was spread among two individuals who posted double-digit digs including DeWolfe (11) and Becky Dorsey (10).

Cassidy Martin had a team high 10 digs and was named as Moncton's Player of the Game. Eliza Druart had four kills.

The Aigles Bleues drop to 4-15 and will fall short in making post-season play and wrap up the regular season at home against UNB on Friday. The Axewomen will hope for a tie-breaking win Friday against Saint Mary's.
