Sea-Hawks drop second match of doubleheader to Axewomen

 ST. JOHN'S, NL - The Acadia Axe-Women defeated the Memorial Sea-Hawks for the second consecutive day, with a 3-1 (25-19, 24-26, 25-18, 25-12) victory at the Field House. 

The Sea-Hawks were able to capture the 2nd set and pushed the Axe-Women to the brink in the decisive 3rd set. After losing the 4th set the Sea-Hawks were a bit deflated and would eventually drop the 4th and final set 25-12. 

The Axewomen were led once again by the versatile Syndey Zakutney (Ottawa, Ont.), she posted a game-high 10 kills and was active on defence too with 16 digs. Middle blocker Erica Fisher (Middle Stewiacke, N.S.) was extremely efficient in her attacks, posting 7 kills with an impressive .500 kill percentage. Axewomen setter Charlotte Dean (Mississauga, Ont.) was all over the court for the visitors, registering 27 assists and 6 kills, doing it all for the Axewomen. 

The Sea-Hawks were able to put in a much better performance in their second match of the season, giving the Axewomen all they could handle at multiple points in the game. Middle blocker Maria Moores was tremendous in the middle, registering a team-high 5 kills and 6 blocks, it was certainly a standout performance for the freshman. Lydia Grawer was once again a bright spot for the Sea-Hawks, adding 5 kills, 13 digs, and 4 blocks on the afternoon. 

Acadia will travel to Moncton next Friday for a two-match weekend starting on Friday at 3:00 pm and Saturday at 2:00 pm.
