Cross Country team finishes 2nd in last AUS race

MONCTON, N.B. – The Axewomen cross country team completed the AUS regular season with a second place finish overall – only one point behind StFX in the final team standings.

Top finishing StFX had two runners in the top five finishers at fourth and fifth, while Acadia's Katie Robinson finished second to Moncton's Carol-Ann MacDonald with a time of 24:10.00

Less than 40 seconds behind Robinson was teammate Madalyn Higgins with a time of 24:49.60.

Four of the top 10 runners were Axewomen including Chrissy Smith and Nicole Skinner. Rookies Skinner and Sarah Lavallee moved up through the pack to score well for the team.

Head coach Ralph Williams was optimistic with the team's performance so far this season and heading into the AUS Championship on Oct. 27 hosted by Dalhousie.

"The team has a momentum going. We have scored better against STFX each meet this season," noted Williams.

"Our front runners Katie Robinson, Madalyn Higgins, and Chrissy Smith kept the pressure on the front runners and broke the tight scoring of StFX runners. So we are going into the AUS championship more optimistic than when we started," said Williams.

The Axewomen have two weeks off before the AUS Championship hosted by Dalhousie on Saturday, October 27 in Halifax – Point Pleasant Park.
