Angela Morrison

Athlete - Soccer
Inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2019

A native of Economy, Nova Scotia, Angela Morrison arrived at Acadia in the fall of 1992 after attending high school at Cobequid Education Centre in Truro. She joined an Axette program that had won five consecutive AUAA titles from 1987-1991 and the national championship in the fall of 1990.

A goalkeeper, Angela was the last line of defence for some pretty good Acadia teams. She helped lead the Axettes to four straight appearances in the AUAA final from 1993 through 1996 and ultimately, the program’s sixth conference banner in the latter year.

Angela was consistently one of the top keepers in the conference, and but for the presence of Leahanne Turner at Dalhousie might easily have earned a string of all-star selections.

After three-straight conference runner-up finishes, Acadia broke through in 1996 to capture the AUAA championship. Angela, named as a conference all-star keeper, completed the 13-game regular season without allowing a goal against.

After surrendering a pair of goals in a 3-2 playoff semi-final victory over Saint Mary’s, she and her teammates blanked St. F.X. 2-0 in the conference final. At the CIAU nationals played at Dalhousie, Acadia dropped a pair of close 1-0 decisions, to Alberta and Laurier.

Since leaving Acadia in 1997, Angela has continued to be involved in soccer and giving back to the game in a multitude of ways.

She played professional soccer in Japan for two years, earned a B.Ed. Degree from the University of Maine at Presque Isle and a Masters degree from the University of North Dakota, and got into college coaching at the NAIA level.

She was an assistant to Neil Sedgewick at the University of North Dakota (Division 2), and head coach at both UND and at San Diego State (Division 1), then again assisted Sedgewick at the University of Montana.

She had earned a Canadian Soccer Level 3 Technical Certification before leaving Canada, and subsequently, acquired a U.S. Soccer Federation Class B license and a National Soccer Coaches Association of America advanced national diploma.

Angela returned to the Valley in 2009 to take up the position of technical director for the Valley District Soccer Association, a big part of which was 'coaching the coaches' from Mount Uniacke to Clare.

She later added the complementary position of VDSA Director of Coaching Development. In 2009-2010, she served as the women's soccer head coach at Acadia.

Since 2010, Angela has served as a Community Sports Development Coordinator for Sport Nova Scotia, as President of the Wolfville Soccer Club and as Vice-President of Valley United Soccer. She continues to call Kings County home and is often a familiar face at Axewomen games.
