Reid brings provincial team experience to Axemen roster

WOLFVILLE – The Axemen basketball program is excited to announce the commitment of Donovan Reid for the 2024-25 season.

The 6’7 forward comes to Acadia from Millwood High School in his hometown of Sackville, N.S. He has been with the Knights since 2020, with Millwood having an impressive 63-11 record over that time.

“Donovan will be a great addition to the Axemen roster for the coming season,” said head coach Mike Leslie. “His growth and development overall with coach Cole at Millwood High, as well as coach Higgins with his BNS provincial team has been very positive. Donovan is a highly committed student-athlete who works extremely hard on the court as well as in the classroom. He has the right mindset as a student-athlete to grow and develop his skills further to be an impactful player at the U SPORTS level.”

Individually, Reid has several accolades over the last four years, most recently playing the 2024 Steele Mitsubishi All Atlantic Game over the weekend at Saint Mary’s. In 2023 he was a metro league and all Atlantic all-star. In 2024 he was the metro league’s defensive player of the year (Bob Douglas Award) and city champion. He was also two-time bronze medalist and captain during his Grade 11 and 12 years.

In his final two years at Millwood, he averaged a double-double, leading the Knights in rebounds and blocks over that time. He was second in points-per-game in Grade 12.

“As a kid who never made their top club team to be given a chance to play in one of the top leagues in Canada at a school like Acadia is a dream come true and I can’t wait to take advantage of this opportunity I’m blessed with,” said Reid.

On top of his time with the Knights he also joined the Basketball Nova Scotia (BNS) U17 team in 2023 where he competed at nationals as a starter. At nationals his highlight was taking five charges in one game, while also posting a 21 point and 20 rebound performance on the national stage.

Reid will be working towards a psychology degree while attending Acadia.
