Kennedy scores pair in draw against Tigers

The Acadia Axewomen tied the Dalhousie Tigers 2-2 on Sunday afternoon in regular season AUS women's soccer action.

Going into today's game, Acadia already clinched a playoff spot, while Dalhousie is still fighting to stay in.

In the first half, both teams came out with an intense and energetic attitude. In the 13th minute,  Acadia's Sydney Kennedy (Fletchers Lake, NS) found the back of the net for her 12th goal as a Axewomen.

The energy continued to intensify in the final minutes of the half when Acadia's goalie Milena Ramirez (Wolfville, NS) made a key save off a Megan Chiasson (Bedford, NS) penalty to allow them to enter halftime with a clean sheet.

In the second half, both teams kept the pressure on with great defending and goalkeeping to match.

On a counterattack early in the half, Kennedy split the Tigers defensive line but was denied by the speed of Dalhousie's Paris Axam (Ottawa, ON).

The Tigers found their spark in the 67th minute as Kaitlyn Clarke (Edmonton, AB) tied the game and just minutes after, Chloe Richardson (Calgary, AB) went one on one with the keeper and found the back of the net, securing herself player of the game honours and a lead for the Tigers in the 70th minute.

Just before the blow of the final whistle, Kennedy yet again scored, to conclude the game 2-2.

Both teams will be back in action next week for their final games of regular season. Dalhousie will travel to UPEI next Saturday at 3 p.m.. Acadia will also be on the road to Memorial University to play back-to-back games next Friday and Saturday, both at 4:30 p.m. AT.
