Ottawa’s Isabelle Swedlove commits to Axewomen for 2024 season

WOLFVILLE – The Axewomen soccer 2024 recruitment class continues to grow with the addition of Isabelle Swedlove.

A 5’6 fullback/central defender, she hails from Ottawa, where she has played for West Ottawa Soccer Club (WOSC).

“Izzy caught our eye based on her work rate and pace,” said Acadia head coach Amit Batra. “She likes to get forward from defensive positions which fits our style of play and just as importantly she will transition quickly back to defending and track players down and deny the opposing attackers. Her ball control and drive are complemented by her versatility, and we believe Izzy will bring a lot of energy to our squad.”

From 2013-23 she spent her time with WOSC, playing within their competitive system until 2018 before playing for the club in the Ontario Player Development League (OPDL).

Following that, she spent 2022-23 playing for WOSC’s showcase team, as well as being a member of Team Ontario over that time.

Outside of playing, she has been coaching soccer within WOSC since she was 12, something that is one of her favourite hobbies as she gets to share her love of soccer. Academically she has recently received honour roll recognition, as well as the Grade 11 marketing award.

“Committing to Acadia for me means continuing to play at a top level of soccer,” said Swedlove. “Furthermore, the appeal of Acadia is their welcoming staff that have made me excited for this new chapter. I will be studying community development at Acadia and I’m very excited for this unique and rich program.”

In the fall, academically, she will be working towards the community development program.
