Kian Bell
Kian Bell (hockey) and Lauren Deal (rugby) have been named the Acadia athletes of the week for the period ending October 13.
Bell, a first-year community development major, had two goals and an assist in the Axemen’s weekend split. He scored his first AUS goal on Friday night, adding a second tally in the same game as Acadia topped the STFX X-Men 8-3 in Antigonish. On Saturday in Acadia’s home opener, he had an assist on the lone Axemen goal of the game by Adam McMaster.
Deal, a fourth-year community development major, was a vocal leader on the field for the Axewomen in their battle for first place on Saturday. Her defensive effort and play also helped Acadia hold the X-Women from further offence in the match and helped with Acadia’s push to close the gap in the second half, coming up six points short of taking top spot in the AUS.
The Axewomen are home Wednesday to host the AUS women’s rugby semifinal. Game time is 6 p.m. against UPEI. The Axemen are also home this week, hosting two games as part of Homecoming. On Friday they welcome UNB, followed by Moncton on Saturday. Puck drop for both games is 7 p.m.
The Acadia athletes of the week are presented by McDonald's.
