Summer Camp Descriptions

SPORTS CAMP

This camp will focus on a variety of sports, activities and games. Each day includes structured skill development and drills, offering participants the opportunity to learn new sports while enjoying familiar ones. Activities will be tailored to age and skill level, with a mix of indoor and outdoor programming. The camp promotes teamwork, inclusivity and fun, with a balanced approach to high- and low-intensity activities appropriate for all campers.

OUTDOOR LEADERSHIP CAMP

This camp will explore the four pillars of leadership, environment, adventure and discovery through experiential play and team-building activities. Campers will engage with nature through activities such as nature walks, scavenger hunts, rock painting and water play, all while building leadership skills in an inclusive and exploratory setting.

BIKE ADVENTURES CAMP

This camp focuses on daily bike excursions throughout town, allowing participants to explore local trails and scenic routes. Stops will include local parks, the splash pad, farm markets and Wolfville Reservoir Park. The camp encourages physical activity, environmental appreciation and community connection.

COOPERATIVE GAMES CAMP

This camp highlights lower-intensity games and activities such as card games, puzzles, board games and arts and crafts. Campers will engage in social and cooperative experiences ranging from painting and planting to collaborative physical games like gagaball, goalball, ultimate frisbee, circle rules football, parachute games, tag and relay races.

END OF SUMMER CAMP

This camp offers a celebration of summer, revisiting the favourite games and activities enjoyed throughout the season. Campers and leaders will reflect on their summer experiences with activities like splash parties, debriefing sessions and trips around town to end the summer on a high note.

WOMEN'S & MEN'S BASKETBALL CAMP

Join the Acadia basketball coaching staff and energetic camp counsellors for an exciting opportunity tailored for young basketball enthusiasts. This camp focuses on skill development, teamwork and game fundamentals through age-appropriate practice drills and games-based, conceptual teaching methods.

Campers will also enjoy guest appearances by members of the Axemen and Axewomen basketball teams.

14U and 16U Volleyball Camp

This week-long camp focuses on developing volleyball and fundamental movement skills with guidance from Acadia’s varsity coaches and athletes. Campers will refine technical and tactical skills through gameplay and off-court sessions, including video analysis, strength training and yoga.

All participants will receive an Acadia Volleyball T-shirt.

3-Day Volleyball Skills Camp

• Friday, Aug. 8 – Serve & Pass

  • Serve mechanics, serve types, location, velocity

  • Passing technique, footwork, platform angles

• Saturday, Aug. 9 – Attack & Block

  • Shot selection, timing, arm swing

  • Blocking footwork, positioning, decision-making

• Sunday, Aug. 10 – Setting & Defence

  • Vision, set variety, hand position

  • Defensive techniques, reading attackers

AXEMEN U11/U13 FEMALE CAMP

This half-day camp provides U11 and U13 female players with a developmental environment focused on skill, work ethic and character. With an outstanding instructor-to-player ratio, campers receive high-quality instruction and correction to master hockey fundamentals.

Sessions will cover shooting and shot selection, skating fundamentals, edge control, offensive and defensive gameplay, passing and decision-making.

Special guest: Avi Adam (Cornell University and Team Canada Women's Development Team).

U9, U11, U13 & U15 SKATING, SKILL & SNIPER CLINIC

This full-day camp provides an early foundation in player development. Participants will improve their skating stride, stopping, crossovers, backwards skating, stickhandling and shooting through drills, stations and small-area games.

A low instructor-to-player ratio ensures a personalized and supportive learning environment.

AXEMEN ELITE GOALIE CAMP

This elite camp is led by Axemen goalie coach Dan Turner and supported by current Axemen goaltenders. Campers receive two hours of on-ice training daily, with a strong focus on skill development, hand-eye coordination and position-specific movement.

The program also includes off-ice training and classroom sessions, all within a small group setting for individualized attention.

AXEMEN GOALIE DEVELOPMENT CAMP

This camp is designed for younger goalies, focusing on the fundamentals of goaltending. Sessions emphasize skating, balance, body positioning and hand-eye coordination. Instruction is led by Dan Turner and Acadia’s goaltending team.

Campers will benefit from on-ice training, off-ice conditioning and classroom sessions in a fun and structured environment.

AXEMEN U7/QUICKSTART YOUNG GUNS HALF-DAY CAMP

This half-day camp offers foundational hockey development for U7 players. With a focus on skating stride, crossovers, stopping, backwards skating, stickhandling and shooting, campers will learn through fun, high-energy activities and small-area games.

Led by Acadia players and coaches, the camp features a top-tier instructor-to-player ratio.

AXEMEN U9 DEVELOPMENT CAMP

This half-day camp offers U9 players an exceptional learning environment focused on skill, work ethic and character. Instruction includes shooting, skating fundamentals, edge control, offensive and defensive gameplay, and decision-making.

Each day includes two hours of on-ice training, off-ice physical activity and hockey growth sessions.

AXEMEN U11 ELITE TRYOUT PREP CAMP

This full-day camp prepares U11 players for upcoming tryouts with a focus on high-intensity skill development. Participants receive two hours of ice time daily, as well as off-ice physical activity and hockey-specific learning.

Key skills include skating, shooting, edge control, passing, gameplay and decision-making. The final two days feature scrimmages to simulate tryout conditions.

DAN PETTERSSON SKATING & SKILL DEVELOPMENT CAMP

For U11, U13 and U15 players

Led by former professional player and Acadia Axemen alum Dan Pettersson, this camp emphasizes power skating, agility, stickhandling, dekes/fakes and station-based skill development. Dan will be joined by Axemen coaches and players.

AXEMEN U13 ELITE TRYOUT PREP CAMP

This full-week camp is designed to prepare U13 players for tryouts through advanced skill development. Daily sessions include two one-hour skill practices and one scrimmage or game between groups.

Campers will focus on shooting, edge control, skating, offensive and defensive systems and decision-making, all within a high-quality coaching environment.

LIAM MAASKANT MODERN DEFENCEMAN CAMP

This five-session camp trains young defencemen in the modern game, focusing on skating, puck movement, body positioning and shutdown skills.

Led by former Axemen captain and current NHL/AHL referee Liam Maaskant, along with the Axemen coaching staff and defencemen from major junior and pro levels.
