Harnish and Young named Acadia athletes of the week
WOLFVILLE – Mya Harnish (soccer) and Sam Young (soccer) have been named Acadia athletes of the week for the period ending September 15.
Harnish, a fifth-year athlete and education student, had a goal and an assist in Friday’s 2-1 victory for the nationally ranked Axewomen against the Dalhousie Tigers. Her goal also held up as the game winner. She played all 180 minutes over the weekend, helping keep the Memorial Sea-Hawks to only two shots on goal in a narrow 1-0 loss.
Young, a first-year business administration student, scored his first AUS goal on Saturday in a 2-1 win over the Memorial Sea-Hawks. He also assisted the game-winning goal by Noah Schurman. The victory and three points were crucial for the Axemen who are now just two points out of a playoff spot.
This week the soccer program hits the road to face Saint Mary’s on Thursday night before returning home to host StFX on Sunday afternoon.
The Acadia athletes of the week are presented by McDonald's.
