Huskies hold on to top Axemen for first victory of 2023

WOLFVILLE - Despite leading at halftime, the Acadia Axemen (1-2) were unable to hold off the Saint Mary's Huskies (1-1) on Friday night as SMU picked up a 13-5 victory.

SMU led 6-5 with 9:29 to go in the game, following Michael Adam's rouge point for the Axemen, but it was Huskie Trent Price that was able to pull Saint Mary's away capitalizing on a fumble on the 11-yard line with 4:08 to go to score the lone touchdown of the game. 

Dante Tabacu was 20-for-41 for the Axemen with 194 yards. 

Michael Petroschke was 4-for-8 for the Huskies in the air for 75 yards with the games longest pass of 39 yards, while Zac Montgomery was 8-for-13 with 68 yards. 

Luck McMillan had a game-high 81 receiving yards, averaging 13.5 yards for Acadia.

The Huskies offence was balanced with Brycen Mayoh's 47 yards leading the way for Saint Mary's. Liam Stewart and Trydell Mintis has 34 and 31 yards in the air respectively.

On the ground Max Ramirez had a game-high 54 yards for the Axemen, while Zac Montgomery led Saint Mary's with 36. 

Acadia will now travel to Bishop's (1-1) for their Week 4 matchup. Saint Mary's has a bye week before travelling to Antigonish on September 22 to face the X-Men (2-0).
