Axemen head into bye week with loss to Gaiters
LENNOXVILLE, Que. — The Acadia Axemen faced a tough challenge on Saturday, falling 70-7 to the Bishop's Gaiters at Coulter Field. While the scoreline favored the Gaiters, Acadia showed resilience and determination throughout the game, continuing to push forward despite the odds.
The Axemen, led by quarterbacks Riley Naujoks and Connor McNamee, worked to find their rhythm in the passing game, combining for 211 yards through the air. Acadia's lone touchdown saw Connor McNAmee find his brother Logan McNamee for a 19-yard TD.
On defense, Acadia faced an impressive Bishop's offense led by quarterback Justin Quirion, who threw for 270 yards and four touchdowns. Though Bishop's put up strong numbers, the Axemen defence continued to compete hard, forcing Bishop's to earn every yard.
The Axemen, now 1-3, will look to regroup and focus during their bye week before hosting Mount Allison at home on September 28. Bishop's is back in action on September 21 against Mount Allison in Sackville, while StFX and Saint Mary's will meet Friday night in Halifax.
