Coulson named Axemen offensive coordinator and quarterback coach
WOLFVILLE, N.S. – The Acadia Axemen football program is pleased to announce Chris Coulson as offensive coordinator and quarterback coach. A former Axemen player and coach, Coulson brings a wealth of experience from the U SPORTS, junior, and professional football levels.
Coulson, who played for the Axemen from 1994 to 1998 and served as a team captain, began his coaching career as Acadia’s defensive line coach and co-defensive coordinator in 1999. Since then, he has built an impressive resume, including a six-year tenure as offensive coordinator at the University of Ottawa (2005–2011), where he led one of the nation’s top-ranked offences, producing multiple All-Canadians and a Hec Crighton Trophy winner. His career also includes coaching roles at Carleton University (2012–2019) as offensive line coach and run game/protection coordinator, along with guest coaching positions in the NFL with the Buffalo Bills and CFL with the Ottawa Renegades, Hamilton Tiger-Cats, and Ottawa REDBLACKS.
Most recently, Coulson has been instrumental in developing young talent at the provincial and club levels. He served as offensive coordinator for Team Ontario’s U14 program (2022–2023) and the undefeated, provincial champion Cumberland Panthers U14 squad in 2024. Additionally, he has been head coach and offensive coordinator for the Gloucester South Raiders, leading teams to city and provincial finals.
Coulson’s return to Acadia marks a full-circle moment in his football journey.
“I’m very excited to have this opportunity to return to Acadia in a coaching capacity,” said Coulson. “Like many of us, Wolfville holds a very special place in my heart. It’s the place where my playing career culminated, and my coaching career began. I’ve been fortunate enough to work with and learn from some great coaches along the way, and I look forward to using that knowledge to help our players and the program towards our goal of continual improvement.”
Coulson’s extensive experience in offensive strategy and quarterback development will be a key asset to the Axemen as they strengthen their offence for the 2025 season.
