Axemen season comes to a close with loss in AUS semifinal
In Saturday's AUS semifinal at Coulter Field in Lennoxville, Que., the Acadia Axemen fell 59-0 to the Bishop's Gaiters.
Bishop's established an early lead, scoring their first touchdown in the opening quarter on an 11-yard pass from Justin Quirion to Oliver Burnett. Acadia's defense fought hard, but Quirion ultimately accumulated 364 passing yards and four touchdowns. Xavier Gervais also contributed with 69 passing yards and a touchdown, alongside three successful field goals, further extending Bishop's lead.
Acadia's offence struggled to find momentum against Bishop's solid defense, managing just 68 total offensive yards. Quarterback Riley Naujoks completed 5 of 13 passes under constant defensive pressure and ended the day with 68 passing yards and an interception.
The game underscored Bishop's dominant play on both offense and defense. While Acadia's season has come to an end, the team looks forward to regrouping and building on this year's experiences. Bishop's, meanwhile, will carry their winning momentum into the AUS championship against Saint Mary's.
