Axemen split weekend versus Capers in Sydney

SYDNEY, N.S. - The Cape Breton University Capers couldn't overcome a slow start and dropped an 82-77 decision to the Acadia Axemen in AUS men's basketball action Friday and captured their first win against the Axemen on Saturday

The visiting Axemen jumped out to a 26-13 lead through one quarter and while the Capers battled throughout, the visitors escaped with the victory.

Cedric Kasongo had 17 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Capers offensively. Kyle Hankins and Kenny Jean-Louis chipped in with 10 points apiece in a losing cause.

Kyle Arsenault had 20 points and nine boards for the Axemen. AJ Simmonds added 16 points and six boards off the bench for the winners while Ben Miller and Erik Nissen finished with 13 and 12 points respectively.

The two squads will be back on the floor Saturday night at 8 p.m. for the rematch at the Sullivan Fieldhouse.

The Capers rebounded from an opening night loss, to hand the visiting Acadia Axemen a 94-76 defeat Saturday in Sydney.

The men's win helped make up for an 82-77 loss to the Axemen on Friday at CBU's Sullivan Fieldhouse.

Meshack Lufile led a balanced Capers attack that featured no fewer than six players hitting at least 10 points.

Lufile had 18 points, while Kenny Jean-Louis (17), Kelson Devereaux (16), Seth Amoah (13), Kayon Mayers (10) and Cedric Kasango (10) all hit the double-digit mark.

Big man Lufile dominated the boards with a game-high 14 rebounds, while Jean-Louis pulled down 10 rebounds.

Shaquille Smith led the Axemen with 20 points.

The Capers will host rival StFX Wednesday at 8 p.m. at hte Sullivan Fieldhouse, while the Axemen head to StFX on Friday, November 13.
