X-Men take Axemen 84-69 

Daniel Passley scored 15 points to lead the StFX X-Men to an 84-69 win over the Acadia Axemen in the second game of the Rod and Joan Memorial Men's Basketball Tournament, hosted by the Dalhousie Tigers. 

Acadia got out to an early lead in the first quarter, but a 30-point second quarter put the X-Men in the lead and they never looked back. 

Passley went 8-10 from the floor and added three rebounds in his 13 minutes on the court. Kevin Bercy and Julius Antoine had 14 and 13 points each, respectively.  

Acadia's top performers were Ben Miller and Nick De Palma with 15 and 13 points respectively. Trevor Grant chipped in another 12 and hauled down five rebounds. 

StFX advances to the first semifinal on Friday night at 6pm to take on the Ottawa GeeGees, while Acadia will play UPEI in consolation action at 1pm. 

UPEI defeat Axemen 95-92 

Tyler Scott scored 29 points to lead the UPEI Panthers to a 95-92 win over the Acadia Axemen in the in the first consolation semifinal on day two of the Rod and Joan Memorial Men's Basketball Tournament, hosted by the Dalhousie Tigers. Scott's points included a three point basket drained at the buzzer to give the Panthers the win.

It was a see-saw affair most of the game until the Panthers went on a 15-0 run midway through the third quarter. The Axemen clawed their way back to tie the game on consecutive free throws by Mitchell Tempro, but Scott sunk a buzzer-beating three-pointer to get the win for the Panthers. 

Mark Matheson was steady for the Panthers with 18 points and seven rebounds while Dut Dut had 13 points and six rebounds. 

Trevon Grant was Acadia's top scorer, netting 18 points and five rebounds, while Tempro had six rebounds to go along with his 14 points. 

UPEI will play their last game of the tournament at 11am tomorrow, facing the Queen's Gaels, while Acadia and Mount Royal will open the day with a 9am game.
