Axemen grab three wins at Milner Invitational

ROTHESAY - The Acadia Axemen picked up three wins over the weekend at the annual Milner Invitational tournament.

Opening the weekend on Thursday against UNB, Acadia earned an 88-79 win over the Reds. Glen Cox was the player of the game, finishing with 32 points.

The next day against another Fredericton opponent, the Axemen were led by Cox's 33 points to a 98-89 win over the St. Thomas Tommies.

To wrap up the weekend the defeated the Cape Breton Capers 95-93, with Cox leading the offence against with 27 points.

"Overall it was a good weekend where all 17 players received playing time and gave us an opportunity to find out how deep our roster could be," said head coach Michael Leslie. "Glen Cox was obviously our most impressive offensive player, but our continued improvement in the execution of our offensive game overall improved each game. Unselfish play and playing for each other was a common theme throughout the weekend."

These three wins come after playing an early exhibition game at home in August against Indianapolis, which Acadia won 89-78.

This week they return home to host the SMU Huskies in an exhibition game on Thursday, Oct. 5 at 7 p.m. on Stu Aberdeen Court.
