Axemen add Fort McMurray's David Chijioke

The Acadia Axemen are excited to announce the commitment of point guard David Chijioke.

Hailing from Fort McMurray, Alta., the 6’0 guard joins Acadia from Holy Trinity Catholic High School where he finished his time with 26.2 points per game, 4.1 rebounds, 4.2 assists and 4.0 steals. He also led the Knights to the 2024 Alberta Schools' Athletic Association (ASAA) 3A boys basketball championship title, getting redemption on their 2023 silver medal finish.

“We are excited to have David join our roster for the upcoming season,” said head coach Mike Leslie. “He is a very skilled guard who brings a high degree of athleticism and offensive scoring as well as lots of tough, gritty defending at the defensive end. David is a very motivated student-athlete and is a genuine and positive young man who will have a great impact on our campus and community. I look forward to working with him on his journey to becoming a very good U SPORTS athlete.”

On top of his high school success, he experienced great success with Northern Trailblazers Basketball and was named to Team Alberta’s U17 provincial team where he represented Alberta at the national championship in Quebec.

“Being from a small town I was always overlooked and had my abilities doubted no matter what numbers I put up or the things I achieved,” said Chijioke. “That’s why Acadia is not only the next step, but also a new beginning in my basketball career. It’s a place where I know I’ll be put in a position to succeed academically and athletically. I know as long as I show up every day and work hard the coaching staff will do the exact same.”

While attending Acadia, he will be working towards a kinesiology degree.
