Regault named AUS rookie of the year, three Axemen earn all-star honours
The 2024-25 Atlantic University Sport (AUS) men's basketball awards were announced Thursday, with Ryan Regault headlining Acadia’s recognition as AUS rookie of the year. He becomes the first Axemen to win the award since Ben Miller in 2014-15.
Ryan Regault’s remarkable rookie run
Regault had an outstanding freshman campaign, playing in 17 games and starting in 11. The six-foot guard from Scarborough, Ont., led all freshman scorers with 12.4 points per game. He also finished second in the AUS in assists, averaging 4.9 per game, while contributing 3.7 rebounds per contest.
Regault was efficient at the free-throw line, shooting an impressive 82.0 per cent. His shooting percentages from the field (36.9) and beyond the arc (29.8) highlighted his scoring versatility. His performance cemented him as one of the top young talents in the AUS and a crucial piece for Acadia’s future. In addition to being named rookie of the year, Regault was also selected to the AUS all-rookie team.
As the AUS rookie of the year, Regault will now represent the conference as its nominee for the Dr. Peter Mullins Trophy, awarded to the U SPORTS rookie of the year. The last player from the Atlantic conference to earn that national honour was Saint Mary's Nikita Kasongo in 2017-18.
Glen Cox earns second-team all-star honours
Veteran forward Glen Cox was recognized as a second-team all-star following a stellar season. Cox was Acadia’s leading scorer, averaging 21.1 points per game, while shooting an efficient 49.2 per cent from the field. He also contributed 7.7 rebounds per game, showcasing his ability to dominate inside the paint and on the boards. In 2023-24, Cox was named an AUS first-team all-star.
Donovan Reid shines as an all-rookie selection
Joining Regault among the top newcomers, Donovan Reid was selected to the AUS all-rookie team. The young guard made an impact on both ends of the floor, averaging 5.5 points and 5.2 rebounds per game while shooting 47.9 per cent from the field. His defensive presence and efficient scoring provided steady contributions in his first season with the Axemen.
