Halifax sharpshooter Kanan Christmas joins Axemen basketball
The Acadia Axemen are adding a sharp-shooting wing with big-game experience as Halifax native Kanan Christmas joins the program for the 2024–25 season.
A 6’3 small forward/shooting guard, Christmas has been one of the region’s most dangerous long-range threats. Known for his deep shooting range and scoring versatility, he most recently played at Father Henry Carr in the OSBA and NPH leagues, helping lead the team to a tournament title while ranking among league leaders in three-pointers and steals.
“We are pleased to add Kanan to our roster this coming season,” said Axemen head coach Michael Leslie. “Kanan’s highly developed, unlimited three-point shooting range and skillset, combined with his overall growth and maturity as a student-athlete and basketball player, will allow him to easily transition to becoming a successful U SPORTS player.”
Christmas previously starred for Citadel High School in Halifax, earning MVP and team captain honours while leading the Phoenix to back-to-back 10-1 seasons. He also represented Basketball Nova Scotia, where he served as captain and led the team in scoring at the national level.
Among his many standout performances, Christmas scored 44 points (9-for-17 from three) against Dartmouth High, added 34 points (7-for-9 from three) versus St. Jude’s Academy, and posted a 26-point game with five threes against Team Manitoba. He averaged 4.2 made threes and ranked second in steals per game at the national tournament.
“It means everything to me because Acadia made me feel welcomed right away,” said Christmas. “I’m ready to win.”
He will pursue a business degree at Acadia.
