Axemen and Panthers settle for tie

WOLFVILLE, N.S. – With UPEI and Acadia searching for their first win of the season, both teams came up empty-handed as the final result gave neither team a "W".

The UPEI Panthers scored first at the 26-minute mark when Kasper Lasia (Ottawa, Ont.) placed a great kick from 30 yards out that Salem Farag (Charlottetown, P.E.I.) headed past Axemen keeper Dylan Leger (Upper Tantallon, N.S.).

With the Panthers ahead 1-0 after 45 minutes of play, the Axemen opened the second half with an incredible tic-tac-toe passing goal that second-year striker Noah Schurman (Coldbrook, N.S.) eventually tapped into the far corner to tie the match at one.

With both teams trying to break the tie throughout the second half, the final result would give both teams a point in the AUS standings.

The Axemen edged UPEI in shots 10-8, yet the Panthers had four shots on goal to Acadia's two.

Panther Evan Couturier (Lower Coverdale, N.B.) posted one save, while Acadia's Dylan Legere had three saves.

UPEI's Kasper Lasia was named the Panthers' Player of the Game. Lasia had one shot on net and an assist in the lone Panther goal.

Oscar Marshall received the AUS Subway Player of the Game honours with two shots on goal.

The Axemen travel to UNB this Saturday, while the Panthers head home and host Moncton next Friday.
