WOLFVILLE, N.S. — Acadia University's men's soccer team capped off their regular season with a 3-1 victory over UPEI on Friday night, as they honoured their graduating seniors in front of a home crowd of 353 at Acadia University Stadium.
The Axemen got off to a quick start, with Noah Schurman finding the back of the net in the 2nd minute, assisted by Oscar Marshall. UPEI responded later in the first half with a goal from Riad Jaha, set up by Jacob Tweel, bringing the score level at 1-1 heading into halftime.
Acadia regained control in the second half. Jabu Deng converted a penalty kick to put the Axemen ahead, before Marshall sealed the win with a curling strike, assisted by Schurman.
The match saw a flurry of yellow cards, with UPEI's Max VanWiechen and Acadia's AJ Magamura, Michael O'Flynn, and Dylan Legere all booked. O'Flynn was sent off late in the game after receiving a second yellow card, but Acadia's defense held firm to secure the win.
Acadia's strong offensive play and disciplined back line were the difference, as they closed out their season on a high note. UPEI will play Dalhousie on Saturday to finish their 2024 schedule.
