Goalkeeper Michael Makropoulos joins Acadia Axemen soccer program
Halifax native Michael Makropoulos will join the Acadia Axemen soccer team for the upcoming Atlantic University Sport (AUS) season, bringing a strong work ethic and competitive edge to the program’s goalkeeper group.
Makropoulos, a 5'10 goalkeeper, has gained valuable experience in recent seasons with Inter Halifax U17 AAA, Suburban FC’s senior men’s team, Citadel High School, and Halifax Dunbrack. He earned MVP honours in the SNS Cup final for Inter Halifax in 2023 after stopping the first three penalties in a shootout victory.
He also helped lead Citadel to a regional final in the high school league and was named co-MVP at the South Shore Showcase.
“We’re delighted to have Michael join the Acadia soccer program,” said head coach Matt Holton. “Michael has a great work ethic and will raise the training environment, providing additional competition to our current goalkeepers.”
Makropoulos will pursue a degree in kinesiology at Acadia, where he says he looks forward to the full university experience.
“Committing to Acadia means striving for excellence both academically and athletically,” he said. “I am excited to study kinesiology at a well-respected institution. Additionally, I look forward to becoming part of the vibrant Wolfville community, where I can connect with new people, embrace new experiences, and continue to grow.”
