Lowrey commits to Axemen soccer program for 2025-26
Acadia Athletics is excited to announce that Matthew Lowrey, a 6'2 centre back from Surrey, B.C., will join the Axemen soccer program for the 2025-26 season. Lowrey, known for his technical skill, field presence and leadership, is expected to bring significant strength to the team.
Lowrey has played with Vancity Pro/FCT in the Fraser Valley Soccer League (FVSL) Men’s Division 1 league, helping his team to a record of 14-2-6. He previously competed with Surrey United in the B.C. Soccer Premier League, where he was awarded the Player of Distinction Award in 2022 and contributed to his team’s defensive strength, helping secure the least goals against for the season. He also represented a travel team at the Gothia Cup in Sweden, reaching the quarterfinals among 112 teams.
“Committing to Acadia allows me to pursue my passion for soccer in a close-knit and supportive environment while earning my degree in business administration,” said Lowrey. “I am excited to join the Acadia community, push my limits on the field and grow both as an athlete and a student over the next four years.”
Head coach Matt Holton said Lowrey will make an immediate impact on the Axemen.
“We are very excited to welcome Matthew to the Axemen soccer program,” Holton said. “As a commanding centre back who is comfortable with the ball at his feet, Matthew will contribute positively to both the offence and defence for Acadia. Matthew’s leadership and personality will help set the culture as we continue to strive for excellence both on and off the field.”
The Axemen look forward to seeing Lowrey’s contributions as he joins the Axemen soccer program and aims to build on the team’s recent successes.
