Acadia finishes second to Tigers at Scholz meet in combined, male and female results

WOLFVILLE - The 14th Jack Scholz AUS Invitational Swim Meet concluded with the Dalhousie Tigers finishing first overall in the men's, women's and combined rankings followed by the host Acadia Axewomen and Axemen.

Dalhousie won the women's event with 833 points overall, while the Axewomen finished with 445 in second place. Memorial rounded out the top three teams with 312 points. UNB was fourth, while the Mounties finished fifth.

To cap off the event with the 400m freestyle relay, Dalhousie finished top spot, with Acadia and Memorial rounding out the podium.

The Tigers also won the men's event with 784 points, trailed by the host Axemen with 444.5. Memorial finished third again, with 321. The Reds and Mounties also finished fourth and fifth respectively.

To end the weekend, Memorial won the 400m freestyle relay, with Acadia finishing second and Dal taking third.

In session one Dalhousie captured 11 first-place finishes, followed by Acadia's four and Memorial's one.

On Sunday in session two, Dalhousie captured 10 first-place finishes, while Acadia and Memorial each won four.

Acadia's positive results in the water on Sunday with Axemen Myles Mctavish and David Harvey against one another in the first heat of the 800m freestyle. In the latter stages of the race, distance specialist Mctavish pulled ahead of Harvie to claim fifth overall.

In the women's 100m butterfly, Sarah Bennet finished third in a close race against Dalhousie and Memorial swimmers. Eliza Stokesbury-Price claimed fifth followed by Emma Hamlyn in sixth.

In the men's 100m butterfly, rookie Nate Thompson continued his successful first meet finishing third.

Ella Collins struck gold in the women's 100m breaststroke in a time of 1:12.53.

Second year Axewomen Sophie Rooney continued her win streak during the 200m backstroke finishing in a time of 2:18.40. Grace Earle and rookie Danielle Moss finished fourth and sixth respectively.

In the men's 200m backstroke, Axemen Jon Earle and Ben Henger finished fifth and sixth respectively.

The women's 50m freestyle featured excellent performances from Axewomen Rooney and Bennett to secure the gold and silver.

In the men's 50 freestyle, Lucas Mazier finished second followed by team captain Bo Stokesbury-Price in fifth. Rookie Chris Weeks of Memorial University won the event with a very impressive season opening performance of 23.62.

In the women's 400m IM, rookie Axewomen Stokesbury-Price finished fifth.

In the men's 400m IM, fifth year Axemen Gordon Shortt was two body lengths behind two Dalhousie Tigers after the butterfly and backstroke legs of the race. However, after the 200m mark, the breastroke specialist was able to make up the ground and come back on the field to claim his first win of the meet.

Deaton Pitre secured a fourth-place finish in the 50m backstroke.

The meet concluded with the 400m freestyle relay. The Axewomen A relay (S. Rooney, S. Bennett, E. Hamlyn, D. Moss) came second finishing behind the Dalhousie Tigers. The Axemen A relay (N. Thompson, D. Harvie, L. Mazier, B. Stokesbury-Price) finished second in a very tight race to the Memorial Sea Hawks.
