Last second foul shots life Huskies past Axewomen

WOLFVILLE – Alaina McMillan (Brantford, ON) was successful from the free throw line with just 0.3 remaining in Saturday's game, hitting two of three shots, to lift Saint Mary's to a narrow 81-79 victory over the Acadia Axewomen.

She finished tied with a team-high 20 points for the Huskies alongside teammate and starter Clara Gascoigne (Dartmouth, NS).

Starter Courtney Donaldson (Kelowna, BC) also finished in double digits, dropping 18, while pulling in seven boards.

It was Elizabeth Iseyemi (Dartmouth, NS) leading Acadia in scoring with a game-high 25 points alongside 10 rebounds for a double-double. Samantha Russell (Dartmouth, NS) finished with 16 in a starting role, while Julia Sylvester (Dundas, ON) came off the bench to contribute 12 points.

The victory for Saint Mary's puts them in top spot in the AUS heading into the final week of games, while Acadia sits in third place just four points back of UNB, who they play twice. The Huskies play twice against Memorial, who sit fourth in the standings.
