Axewomen sweep Huskies in final home game of 2025
The Acadia Axewomen secured a dominant 3-0 victory over the No. 3-ranked Saint Mary's Huskies in AUS women's volleyball action Friday at Stu Aberdeen Court. Set scores were 25-21, 25-19 and 25-22.
Acadia took control early, with Alexia Lemay-Evans opening the first set with a kill assisted by Katie MacLean. The teams exchanged leads before the Axewomen capitalized on a series of Huskies errors, including four attack errors by Breanna Golding. A service ace by Mia Lemay-Evans helped Acadia close out the set 25-21.
The second set saw Acadia maintain momentum, jumping to a 2-0 lead following an attack error by Saint Mary's and a kill by Lemay-Evans. The Huskies fought back to tie the score at 11-11, but Acadia responded with key plays from Jenna Lake, who recorded multiple kills, including a decisive one at 18-16. The Axewomen secured the 25-19 win with a final kill by Leah Weatherhead and an attack error by Emilia Mikanovich.
Acadia closed out the match in the third set, with Lake continuing to lead the offense. She delivered a kill off a MacLean assist to start the set and remained a key contributor throughout, capping her performance with another kill at 22-16. Despite a late surge from Saint Mary's, Acadia held firm to claim the 25-22 victory.
Lake finished with 13 kills, hitting .294, and added 11 digs. MacLean led all players with 25 assists and contributed a service ace. Mia Lemay-Evans recorded a team-high five blocks and an ace, while Alexia Lemay-Evans notched 10 kills, 12 digs and three blocks.
For Saint Mary's, Mikanovich led the Huskies with 18 kills on 38 attempts (.211) and added 10 digs and four assists. Golding contributed eight kills and five digs, while Grace Blaskovits recorded 20 assists and two service aces. Sydney Fader led the team defensively with nine digs.
The Axewomen return to action on the road against Saint Mary's on Saturday, Feb. 15, at 7 p.m.
