Acadia men's hockey goaltender Thomas Couture has been named the AUS male athlete of the week for the period ending January 7.

Couture, a first-year business administration student, picked up his first career AUS shutout win on Wednesday against the Saint Mary’s Huskies. The 2-0 victory featured a 33-save performance by Couture. He followed that with a 21-save win, including a perfect shootout, to help the Axemen to a weekend sweep to open the second half of the year.

He is second in the AUS in save percentage (.919) third in games played (16) and saves (431).

The AUS female athlete of the week was Grace Beer, goaltender for the Dalhousie Tigers women's hockey team. 

The second-year netminder from Oakville, ON had a fantastic start to the new year as she led her Tigers to a pair of road wins. In Friday’s 3-2 victory over the host St. Thomas Tommies, Beer turned aside 37 shots in her team’s 3-2 victory. Just one night later, Beer stopped all 31 shots fired her way as Dalhousie blanked the host UPEI Panthers 1-0.

Beer leads the AUS in games started (14) and sits second in wins (9), saves (433) and save percentage (.944).
