Amoah and Kelly named Acadia athletes of the week
Alli Kelly (women's soccer) and Nathan Amoah-Gyekye (men's soccer) have been named the Acadia athletes of the week for the period ending September 1.
Kelly, a fourth-year sociology major, led the Axewomen offence over their two matches over the weekend with three goals. Kelly scored both game-winning goals for Acadia in their 3-1 victory over Mount Allison on the road and 2-0 win over Moncton at home. She was also named player of the game in Acadia’s opening match of the season at MtA. After one weekend she sits tied for second in the AUS in scoring, trailing only Memorial’s Jen Milligan.
Amoah-Gyekye, a third-year biology student scored the game-tying goal for the Axemen in the 90th minute of Sunday's match against Moncton. The tally made it a 1-1 finish, earning Acadia a key point in the standings as the look to return to the playoffs. He played all 180 minutes over the opening weekend, which started with an unfortunate 1-0 loss after an 89th minute goal by Mount Allison on the road on Friday night.
