Cummins extends contract with Axemen football program

WOLFVILLE – Acadia football head coach Jeff Cummins recently signed his contract extension with the Axemen, confirming he will be back on the sideline for the 2024 AUS season.

“I’m excited to continue my career at Acadia, a place I’ve grown to love coaching over the last 20 years,” said Cummins. "I hope that this new contract will give our players and their families tremendous confidence in our stability moving forward. I’m very grateful for my time here thus far and look forward to continuing to build the Axemen family."

During his time at Acadia, Cummins has won six AUS championships as head coach. Personally, he has been recognized by the AUS with six coach of the year awards, two of which led to him being named the U SPORTS (CIS) national coach of the year.

“We are excited to have coach Cummins continue to lead our Axemen football program,” Acadia University director of athletics Brian Finniss. “He has been the driving force behind the program for the past two decades and I look forward to working with him to continue to build upon the tradition of excellence that is already in place.”

On top of coaching the Axemen, Cummins has represented Canada on the world stage previously coaching with the junior and senior men’s national teams.

As a defensive end and tackle, Cummins played in the Canadian Football League on various teams including Las Vegas, Toronto, Ottawa and finishing in Hamilton, where he captured a Grey Cup in 1999, all of which followed his graduation from the University of Oregon Ducks in 1993.
