Monteiro brings Alberta championship experience to Acadia

The addition of Kaysar Monteiro to the Axemen defence brings provincial championship experience to Acadia for the 2024 season.

A 6’1, 170 lb cornerback, the Calgary, Alta. Native brings championship experience to Wolfville from his time with the Ernest Manning Griffins. In the most recent season he was part of their city and provincial championship team, being named defensive MVP and division one all-star. He also led the team with four interceptions and 16 pass breakups.

In his 2023 spring lead with the Wildcats he also led the team with four interceptions, won a city championship and was invited to the Top 50 combine.

“Bringing in a player like Kaysar, who played for the top high school team in Alberta and was their defensive MVP, really excites the coaches here at Acadia,” said linebackers coach Rob Suffron. “Kaysar has played and won at a high level, and we can’t wait to see how those talents translate with this group of defensive backs.”

In total he has won four city championships alongside his provincial championship, with his best game being against the Salisbury Sabres with two pass breakups, an interception and a forced fumble. He also led the 2021-22 Griffins squad in interceptions with three, which included one pick six.

“Getting this offer and opportunity means a lot and I’m going to make the most of it,” said Monteiro. “I give thanks to God, my family, friends and coaches who helped get me to this point. I’m ready to win games as an Axemen.”

Monteiro will be working towards a mathematics and statistics degree while attending Acadia.
