Axemen welcome Higgins to 2025 recruitment class
Connell Higgins, a receiver and long snapper from Dartmouth, N.S., has committed to the Acadia Axemen football program for the upcoming season.
Higgins, who stands 6’0 and weighs 175 pounds, demonstrated leadership and versatility throughout his high school football career. As captain of Dartmouth High School’s team in his junior and senior years, he led the squad to its first winning season in more than five years, finishing with a 4-4-1 record in 2024. His achievements include being named DHS Rookie of the Year in 2022 and receiving the Captain’s Award in 2023.
He also represented Football Nova Scotia at the 2024 Canada Cup, starting as a slot receiver and on special teams during the national tournament in Saskatchewan. In addition, Higgins played for the Dartmouth Destroyers, earning a Tier 1 provincial championship in 2019 and being named Lineman of the Year in 2021.
“I’m incredibly grateful for this opportunity to be able to play at such a great program that I know will help develop me as a football player and as a person,” Higgins said. “Playing football at the next level has been a dream of mine since I was a kid. Higgins’ senior season statistics include 600 all-purpose yards, with 507 receiving and 93 rushing yards, along with three receiving touchdowns and several defensive contributions. His standout performance came against Horton High School, where he recorded five receptions for 105 yards.
