Axemen swept in Sydney by Capers

SYDNEY, NS – In Sunday afternoon basketball action, the Cape Breton Capers hosted the Acadia Axemen at the Sullivan Field House in Sydney. The CAPERS completed a weekend sweep with a 75-67 win. 

The CAPERS got out to a fast start outscoring the Axemen 20-12. The game had some wild swings as the Axemen shooting caught fire in the second and third quarters giving the Wolfville school an 8 point lead heading into the final stanza.  

It was the 4th quarter that proved to be the CAPERS best quarter as they stepped up defensively only allowing 13 points. They also had their best shooting quarter finishing with 29 points to take the 8 point victory. The game ended with a thunderous alley-oop dunk from Osman Omar to Paul Watson. 

The CAPERS were led in scoring by Osman Omar (Mississauga, ON) and Paul Watson (Mississauga, ON) who both had 19 points for the winners. CJ Bennett (Brampton, ON) also had a strong game at both ends of the court and chipped in with 11 points and 6 rebounds.  

The Axemen once again had a balanced scoring attack. Acadia had 4 players hit for double digits. They were led by Jacques Lukusa with 18 points, Alex Muise with 12, Marcus Upshaw with 12 and Rowan Power had 10 points and 8 rebounds.  

The CAPERS Osman Omar was named the Subway Player of the Game. Acadia falls to 6-13 on the season and currently sit in the 6th and final playoff spot 2 points ahead of Memorial University. The CAPERS won their second in a row and improve to 8-11 and are 5th  with 18 points with one game remaining.  

The Axemen wrap up their regular season on Wednesday, February 19th when they host Saint Mary's at 6 pm. The CAPERS play their last regular-season game Friday, February 21st when they travel to Antigonish to take on ST.FX at 8 pm.  All the action can be seen on AUSTV.CA
