Sauter brings long-range scoring to Basketball Axemen

WOLFVILLE, N.S. – Acadia men's basketball head coach Michael Leslie is pleased to announce the commitment by Cochrane, Alta. native Max Sauter.

A 6'3" shooting guard for the Cochrane High School Cobras, Max was recently named the Rocky View Schools and the Calgary Catholic School District's most valuable player for the 2021-22 season.

A two-time league All-Star (2019-20 and 2021-22) and league-leading scorer in 2020 with a 30 ppg average, Max was named the Cobras' team MVP. This past season the Cobras captured a AAA Divisional, City, and Provincial Championship.

As noted by head coach Michael Leslie, Sauter brings long-range scoring ability to the Axemen.

"We are very pleased to have Max join Acadia basketball.  Max is an excellent long-range shooter and scorer who recently completed a highly successful Grade 12 career.  He can score from anywhere behind the three-point line and can also attack the rim.  He will be a great fit to our roster and add prolific scoring over his years at Acadia," said Leslie.

In Club play, Sauter was a member of the Cochrane Eagles basketball club who, in 2021, won a league and provincial championship. Sauter was named the team's most valuable player.

Sauter is the son of former hockey Axeman Barkley Sauter who played for Acadia from 1997 to 2001. Sauter will work towards a Bachelor of Business Administration degree while attending Acadia University.

"I chose Acadia not only because I believe coach Leslie and the university will help me reach my personal goals, but for the great people and community as well," said Sauter.

The Axemen will kick off the AUS regular season on the road at StFX on Wednesday, October 26, and return to Wolfville for their home opener on Saturday, October 29 vs StFX – 8:00 p.m. start.
