Panthers hand Axemen loss in the first of a two game weekend vs UPEI

WOLFVILLE, NS – The UPEI Panthers took down the Acadia Axemen 90 – 74 on a Saturday night at Stu Aberdeen Court.

The Subway Player of the game was the Panther's Elijah Miller (Rexdale, ON). Miller scored 31 points to go along with 5 assists and 4 steals. For the Axemen Thomas MacDonald (Rothesay, NB) led the way, putting up a 14 point – 12 rebound double-double.

The Panthers took a 46 – 31 lead into halftime fueled by their three-point shooting (7 of 16 at the half) and held on to that lead for the rest of the game. UPEI led for the entire contest with only one tie occurring in the 40 minutes of action.

Abilash Surendran (Scarborough, ON) added 18 points and 5 rebounds for the Panthers. The 6'7 forward hit a game-high 4 three-pointers to help UPEI maintain their lead. For Acadia, Miguel Boskovic (Santa Cruz de Tenerife, ESP) posted a team-high 18 points to go with 3 assists.

Acadia did well in the rebounding department, limiting the Panthers to just 2 second-chance points while scoring 12 of their own. Meanwhile, UPEI found success in forcing Acadia turnovers. 16 turnovers by the Axemen led to 22 points off turnovers for the Panthers.

This loss puts Acadia at 0 – 3 this season, while UPEI continues their perfect record as they advance to 3 – 0. The Axemen face off against the Panthers again tomorrow going into the second game of their four-game home stand.
