Panthers roar back in second half for a 93-70 win over Axemen

WOLFVILLE, NS – Subway Player of the Game Sam Chisholm (Bridgetown, N.S.) scored 22 points along with 9 rebounds to lead the Panthers to a 93-70 win over the host Acadia Axemen. Miguel Boskovic (Santa Cruz de Tenerife, ESP) led Acadia in scoring, putting up 15 points to go with 5 rebounds and 5 assists, and was named the Axemen's Player of the Game

The Axemen started hot from the three-point range (6 – 13 at the half). The hot shooting helped the Axemen to grab a 43–36 lead through two-quarters of play. Acadia also displayed good ball movement as they racked up 12 of their 16 assists in the first half. This level of play showed to be unsustainable in the second half as the Panthers ramped up the defensive intensity.

Acadia was held to just 9 points in the third quarter and it wasn't until 5 minutes and 27 seconds had passed in the fourth for the Axemen to score their first points of the quarter.

Every starter for UPEI scored in double figures, while Acadia had been solid on the boards in Saturday's contest, the Panthers dominated the glass in this game, out-rebounding the Axemen 50–24. The advantage on the boards allowed UPEI to score 25 second-chance points. Kamari Scott (Malton, Ont.) assisted in crashing the glass for the Panthers. Scott put up 20 points to go along with 11 rebounds giving him his first double-double of the season.

The Acadia reserves showed up on time as they outscored the Panthers 25–9 in the final 4 minutes of game time.  Gabe Davignon (White Lakes, N.S.) off the bench, converted on two and-one opportunities including a 4-point play. The freshman guard would finish with 12 points in the match.

The Axemen will look for their first win of the season on Friday, November 11th at 8:00 pm as they host the Cape Breton Capers while the Panthers will return home to face the StFX X-Men next weekend.
