Axemen struggle in the second half in a loss vs. Dalhousie

HALIFAX, N.S. - The Dalhousie men's basketball team beat Acadia 83-53 on December 1 at Dalplex.

Shamar Burrows (Nassau, Bahamas) got to the rim over and over again to help the Tigers jump out to a 10-1 lead to start the game. Dalhousie kept up the aggression and finished the quarter with a 26-10 lead.

Dal continued their physical play in the second, nearly doubling Acadia in rebounds and points in the paint. A couple of threes from Acadia's Ryan Munro (Timberlea, NS) and Gabe Davignon (Whites Lake, NS) kept the Axemen in the game as they trailed 43-32 at the half.

The Tigers came out of halftime possessed as they outscored Acadia 27-11 in the third quarter including massive dunks from Burrows, Alex Ruiz (Valencia, Spain), Malcolm Christie (Fredericton, NB) and Samuel Wade (Wallace, NS) that ignited the home crowd.

Dalhousie rode the momentum to a decisive 83-53 victory as they close out the first half of the season with a win and tie UPEI for the second-best record in the conference. With the loss, Acadia drops to 1-7 on the season and will look to get back on track in the new year.

Shamar Burrows earned Subway player of the game honours after posting a 22-point, seven rebound and six assist stat line.

Dalhousie will be back in action on December 29 when they play McGill in the annual Rod and Joan Shoveller Memorial tournament. Acadia will play next on January 6 when they travel to UPEI to face the Panthers.
