Axemen end season with win over host UNB REDS

Axemen end season with win over host UNB REDS

FREDERICTON, NB -  The UNB REDS dropped an 81-66 decision to the Acadia Axemen in front of a large Richard J. CURRIE CENTER crowd on Senior Night.

The Axemen snapped a three game losing streak and split the season series with the REDS.

The Axemen used a commanding 28-8 third quarter to help control of this contest, led by Miguel Perez Boskovic (Santa Cruz de Tenerife, ESP), who had eight of his 19 points in the third frame.

"We knew it was our last game of the year, so we just tried to come with a lot of energy and give it all we had to finish the season with a win," said Boskovic, named Subway Player of the Game.

He was 6-of-15 from the field while adding five rebounds and two assists.

"I just focused on taking what the game was giving me and not trying to force anything," said the first year forward. "I just wanted to do what I could to help my team win."

It was story of lackluster shooting on the night for UNB.

The REDS struggled from distance, shooting a lowly 6-of-26 from behind the arc.

First-year forward Vegas Evans (Brampton, ON) led the REDS, scoring 16 points and grabbing six rebounds, while contributing a highlight reel block in the third quarter.

Jeven Eddy (Ajax, ON) contributed 11 points and six rebounds, while Marcus Barnes (Kitchener, ON) and Norm Burry (Grafton, NB) added 10 point each.

UNB now shifts their focus to Subway Atlantic University Sport championship tournament, in Halifax.

The fifth seeded REDS will face the Cape Breton University Capers in the AUS quarterfinals. That game goes Friday at 3:00pm, at the Scotiabank Centre.
