Nationally ranked X-Men top Axemen to end opening half
WOLFVILLE, N.S. — The No. 8 ranked StFX X-Men defeated the Acadia Axemen 91-79 on Saturday at Stu Aberdeen Court.
StFX established control early, closing the first half with a 50-39 advantage. Gloire Koua (Brazzaville, Congo) and Tariq Armstrong (London, ON) paced the X-Men, combining effective scoring and playmaking. StFX's dominance on the boards, particularly in securing offensive rebounds, allowed them to build and maintain a lead.
Acadia mounted a brief comeback in the second half, led by Glen Cox (Scotsburn, NS), who scored a game-high 26 points on 9-of-24 shooting and 8-for-8 free-throw accuracy. Donovan Reid (Lower Sackville, NS) contributed a double-double with 11 rebounds, 10 points, and added four blocks and six assists. Despite these efforts, StFX kept the Axemen at bay, extending their lead to as much as 19 points late in the second half.
For StFX, DJ Jackson (Mississauga, ON) led the way with 20 points, while Jeff Ngandu (Lubumbashi, Congo) had a double-double, tallying 16 points and 13 rebounds alongside three blocks. Keyonte Beals (North Preston, NS) chipped in with 16 points, and Gatluak James (Windsor, ON) added 12 rebounds.
Acadia's Kyle Munro (Timberlea, NS) facilitated the offense with six assists, while Gabe Davignon (Whites Lake, NS) contributed 15 points, including two key three-pointers. However, the Axemen struggled with shooting consistency, particularly in the second half, allowing StFX to secure the win.
Both teams are now done until January, with StFX returning to action on January 8 at Dalhousie, while Acadia will host Memorial or January 10.
