Wilson leads Axemen in victory over Sea-Hawks
WOLFVILLE — The Acadia Axemen secured a commanding 107-78 victory over the Memorial Sea-Hawks on Friday night at Stu Aberdeen Court.
Gabe Davignon led Acadia with 19 points, shooting 7-of-12 from the field, including 5-of-9 from three-point range. Glen Cox posted a team-high 21 points and grabbed eight rebounds, going 9-for-17 from the floor. Briawne Wilson was the top scorer, finishing with 27 points on 12-of-16 shooting and adding two rebounds. Kyle Munro chipped in with nine points and a game-high eight assists, while Ryan Regault contributed 20 points, eight assists, and four three-pointers.
Memorial's Flynn Boardman-Raffet led all scorers with 29 points, making 10 field goals, including three from beyond the arc, and sinking six free throws. River Drefers added eight points, three assists, and two three-pointers, while Joshua Francis contributed six rebounds, six assists, and three blocks. Norm Burry dominated the boards with 11 rebounds and dished out five assists, and Jodick Moudiandambu was efficient with 13 points on 6-of-9 shooting.
Acadia built a 28-21 lead after the first quarter, dominating the paint with 14 points and scoring 12 off turnovers. The Axemen shot 10-for-19 from the field, including three three-pointers. Cox and Davignon were key contributors, with Cox adding six points off the bench. Memorial's efforts were led by Burry, who scored eight points, but the team's seven turnovers proved costly.
The Axemen extended their advantage in the second quarter, outscoring Memorial 27-19 to take a 55-40 lead into halftime. Acadia shot 11-for-21 from the field, including four three-pointers. Cox and Davignon again played pivotal roles, while Memorial committed six turnovers compared to Acadia's one.
In the third quarter, Acadia pulled further ahead, outscoring the Sea-Hawks 25-15. The Axemen shot 12-for-19, scoring 16 points in the paint and assisting on 10 of their baskets. Memorial struggled from three-point range, converting just one of 12 attempts.
The fourth quarter saw Acadia maintain control, outscoring Memorial 27-23. The Axemen shot 9-for-16, including six of eight from beyond the arc, and recorded nine assists. Acadia's bench contributed 12 points, matching Memorial's reserves.
Acadia and Memorial will meet again on Saturday night in Wolfville, with tip-off scheduled for 8 p.m.
