(St. John's N.L.) Zach Shaffelburg's penalty kick in the 67th minute was the difference as the Acadia Axemen defeated the Memorial Sea-Hawks 1-0 in AUS men's soccer action on Saturday in St. John's.
Acadia improved to 4-2-1 with the win. Memorial fell to 0-5-1 with the loss.
The game was tightly contested late with a number of challenges resulting in yellow cards. Acadia were handed three yellows while Memorial picked up a single yellow card.
Players of the game were forward Erik Merchant for the Axemen and rookie midfielder Jordi Slaney for the Sea-Hawks.
The teams will be back on the pitch tomorrow afternoon at 1:15 p.m. to finish their weekend series.
