WOLFVILLE, N.S. – The U SPORTS No. 2 ranked Cape Breton Capers handed the Acadia Axemen a 6-0 loss in AUS soccer action on Sunday afternoon.

Cape Breton forward Daniel Williams (Pierrefonds, Que.) came hot out of the gate and had a few nice headers towards the net, but was unable to finish.

Eventually, a header by Marcus Campanile (Edinburgh, U.K.) got by Acadia keeper Nicholas Jeffries (Rothesay, N.B.) after a well-placed corner kick from Lewis White (Musselburgh, U.K.). After the first 15, the Capers were up by 1.

Acadia continued to fight off the undefeated Capers, but it was clear that the Axemen would be in for a tough game.

The Axemen started to get a bit more aggressive towards the end of the half and played more time in the other end. Sam Laviolette (Ottawa, Ont.) almost tied the game up but his header went wide.

The Capers lead the game by 1 after 45 minutes.

Cape Breton University added another goal in the 55th minute courtesy of midfielder Caekan Budhoo (Winnipeg, Man.) with an assist from Anesti Pejo (Korce, Albania).

Acadia fell to 3-0 after a controversial goal from Jack Simpson (Redding, U.K.) up close. Acadia's fans seemed to think the play was offside but the goal stood. At 65' the score read 3-0.

Isaiah Johnston (Milton, Ont.), who assisted Simpson's goal, scored one of his own to bring the lead to 4 goals. Johnston was named the AUS Subway Player of the Game.

Two more goals were scored by the Capers before the match was over. Their 5th was a penalty kick by Campanile, who also set up Budhoo for the 6th goal of the game.

Cape Breton easily took this game 6-0.

Acadia's Spencer Buck (Quispamsis, N.B.) had a great defensive game despite the score. The 5th year veteran was named Acadia's Player of the Game.

Acadia plays their next two games this weekend at Memorial University this coming weekend.

Cape Breton University returns home on Saturday to play the Université de Moncton.
