Soccer Axemen back on track with 3-2 win over Tigers

HALIFAX, N.S. - The Acadia Axemen defeated the Dalhousie Tigers 3-2 Wednesday night on Wickwire Field in Halifax. The win comes after the Axemen lost four games in the row prior to tying the Tigers back on September 20th in Wolfville.

Acadia's Alec MacKenzie (Fall River, N.S.) got things going early for the Axemen, capitalizing on a misplayed ball inside the Tigers 18-yard box.

Gordon McLaughlin (Peterborough, Ont.) tallied Acadia's second goal of the night at 26:48 to increase their lead by two.

Jacob Bolton (Halifax, N.S.) responded for the Tigers two minutes shy of the half off a pass from Gracious Kasheke (Halifax, N.S.) to pull the Tigers within one heading into halftime.

The Axemen came out firing early in the second half with Cedric Gravel (Ottawa, Ont.) scoring his first goal of the year at the 48-minute mark to give Acadia a 3-1 lead.

Emilio Roche (Calgary, Alta.) answered for the Tigers 20 minutes later to bring the score to 3-2.

Seven yellow cards were assessed in the second half, with six given to the Axemen, giving the Tigers many scoring opportunities late in the match but they were unable to capitalize.

Acadia's Alec MacKenzie earned Subway Player of the Game honours.

The Tigers play host to the Mount Allison Mounties Sunday, October 20 in their final home game of the season while Acadia hosts Saint Mary's on Friday, October 18.
