Five goals in a row give Moncton 6-4 win over host Axemen

WOLFVILLE, N.S. – What began as a 2-0 Axemen lead, changed quickly in the second half to a 5-2 Moncton advantage after five goals in a row by the visiting Aigles Bleus.

Joe Iatrou opened the Axemen scoring at the 20th minute followed by an Oscar Marshall goal five minutes later to give Acadia a comfortable but early 2-0 lead.

With roughly five minutes remaining in the opening half, George Musitu got the Aigles Bleus on the scoreboard. Musitu's goal was the first of three he would net for the Subway Player of the Game honours.

The Aigles Bleus would tie the game at two with less than two minutes in the half with Lionel Feval scoring a penalty shot to beat Nic Jeffries.

Trailing 9-5 shots on net, the Axemen opened the second half with a flurry of chances to pull ahead but Moncton keeper Andre Leblanc kept Moncton in the game.

Musitu nailed an unassisted goal after stealing the ball from an Axeman defender and catching the far corner of the net from  the top of the box.

Pascal Sonier gave the Aigles Bleus a 4-2 lead at the 65th minute and Musitu pushed the lead to 5-2 on this third and final goal of the night.

Rookie Axeman Gabe Morgan closed the gap to 2 goals on a cross goal pass from Zane Brennan.

Phillippe Gallant added to the Moncton tally to give the Aigles Bleus a 6-3 lead at the 86th minute.

Zane Brennan added the final goal in to extended time to give Moncton the 6-4 win.

Leblanc posted 10 saves on 14 shots on goal, while Acadia's Nic Jeffries was tested by seven shots.

The Axemen travel to Cape Breton on Sunday to take on the undefeated Capers, while Moncton heads to Dalhousie tomorrow.
