Axemen give up first half lead in 3-2 loss to REDS

FREDERICTON, NB - Luke Rosettani (Kanata, ON) scored two second-half goals to lead the UNB REDS in a 3-2 win over the visiting Acadia Axemen, Saturday, at UNB's BMO Centre.

"We knew it was super important to get three points today," said Rosettani, named Subway Player of the Game.

Rosettani's first goal came in the 52^nd minute when he volleyed a Roan Saengmeng (Charlottetown, PE) crossing pass.

"I've been bugging him all week about crossing balls, and he finally got one right at my foot and I was able to finish," said Rosettani.

In the 66^th minute, he took a Keji Adeniyi (London, UK) pass alone in front of the Acadia net and slipped the ball between the legs of Axemen keeper Dylan Legere (Upper Tantallon, NS).

"Keji had been working the defenders all game and when I saw the keeper come out, he jumped and I just slipped the ball underneath him."

The home team opened the scoring, in the 11^th minute, following a free kick.

Ryan Jetten (Kanata, ON) pounced on a loose ball and fired it past Legere.

Six minutes later, Toni Adeoye (Dartmouth, NS) scored to tie the game, and four minutes after that, Liam Kelly (Abbotsford, BC) put the Axemen up 2-1.

Acadia took their one-goal advantage to the halftime break.

"It feels worse than a loss," said Kelly. "Everyone in our room expected to win that game, so it's disappointing, for sure."

"We've shown in the last three performances how good a team we are, we just haven't been able to get the results. I still have confidence that we're going to start winning. It's a big task though."

With the win, the REDS improve to 5-1-1.

Acadia remains winless at 0-5-2.

Up next for the Axemen, a home date with the Mount Allison Mounties, Friday at 7:15 pm.

The REDS host the Memorial Sea-Hawks on Saturday, in a scheduled 3:15 pm start.
