REDS score two unanswered goals for 2-1 win over Axemen

WOLFVILLE, N.S. – All goals were scored in the opening half as the visiting UNB REDS posted a 2-1 win over Acadia in the Axemen's last home game of the regular season.

Liam Kelly (Abbotsford, B.C), who was named the Acadia Player of the Game, netted the Axemen's only goal 17 minutes into the opening half.

Kelly received a great pass from Noah Schurman (Coldbrook, N.S.) and sent a shot top shelf on the short side past REDS' keeper Louis-Charles Vaillancourt (Sherbrooke, Que.) for the lead.

Twelve minutes later the REDS scored their first of two goals in the first half.

Angad Panesar (Brampton, Ont.) had the easy tap in past Axemen keeper Connor Burns (Halifax, N.S.) after Panesar stole a loose ball from an Acadia defender, and passed it off to Keji Adeniyi (Nottingham, ENG.) who returned the pass to Panesar for the goal.

A very even battled first half was capped off with UNB's second and last goal of the match. Liam MacGowan (New Westminster, B.C.) one-timed a pass in the box from Lars Gierull (Ottawa, Ont.) for the eventual winning goal.

Gierull was named the Subway Player of the Game for his three shots and assist.

In Burns' debut, he made six saves on eight shots on goal. The REDS recorded 19 shots to Acadia's 17. Vaillancourt was tested with six shots on goal.

The Axemen drop to 0-8-3 and hope to grab their first win this coming Friday. The REDS improve to 7-1-2 and sit second in the AUS standings.

The Axemen will finish off the regular season with a Friday match at Mount Allison, while the REDS will have two games this week on the road, facing STFX and Cape Breton beginning on Friday.
