Acadia swim team brings home a pot of gold

St. JOHN'S, Nfld. - The AUS Swimming Championship, hosted by Memorial University, wrapped up with Day Three finals. Following three days of heats and finals, the Axemen and Axewomen swim team finished third combined overall.

The Axemen, without the services of Hayden Adams who grabbed two first place wins in the 50m and 100m backstroke and a second place finish in the 200m backstroke in the last AUS meet at Dalhousie, finished third overall. The Axewomen posted a strong fourth place finish.

A final medal count of six gold medals, seven silver medals and four bronze medals eclipsed last season's results - the highest amount since the return of the program. The weekend also offered several personal bests by the young and seasoned.

Senior swimmer Luc Boudreau accounted for four gold, one silver and one bronze medal, while second year Axewoman, Kristen MacPherson, captured two gold, one silver and one bronze.

In Day three's 4X100m Medley Relay, the Axewomen (Kristen MacPherson, Kyla Boudreau, Eliza McGuire and Elizabeth Skuriat) posted a bronze medal win, while the men's 4X100m Medley Relay team (Collin Reynolds, Luc Boudreau, Patrick Henger and Justin LeBlanc).

Three swimmers will be attending this year's CIS National Championship from February 21-23 at the University of Toronto including Luc Boudreau, who qualified at the first AUS meet of the season. Hayden Adams, who may not be able to attend due to injury, qualified two weeks ago at the last AUS meet of the season. Kristen MacPherson will attend for the second year in a row after qualifying this weekend at the AUS championship meet.

"I'm very proud of every single swimmer this weekend. Nobody gave up, and we'll be better for the adversity next year" pointed out Head Coach Chris Stone, referring to the loss of Hayden Adams for the Championship weekend.
